OpenVisualFX tutorial: 2D Tracking for Compositing in Blender

It has been a wile since I last posted, but I come bearing gifts…

It’s no secret that I am a big fan of Blender.  It has grown in leaps and bounds over the years and the professionals are starting to take notice… Enter Sean Kennedy.  Sean recently started up a blog and has been kind enough to release his 2D tracking tutorial for Blender. OK, so it has been buried in CG Cookie‘s archive for a while, but it’s great to see such Blender and other open source source software being being shown as a viable alternative to propriety software.

In other news, Toonz (now OpenToonz), the animation software as used by animation legends Studio Ghibli and others has just been released as open source software. Such classics as Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and even Futurama were created using Toonz. There does not seem to be a Linux version yet, but as it was originally written for Irix systems, and it is Open Source, I guess it is only a matter of time before it is ported.

Brutally honest commencement speech by Robert De Niro

Recently Robert De Niro was asked to give a commencement speech for the class of of 2015 at the Tisch School of the Arts.

You are all f!#$ed

His brutally honest, yet humorous speech highlighted the truths of a creative career path, while giving fantastic advice on how to deal with rejection.

Rejection might sting but my feeling is that often it has very little to do with you. When you’re auditioning or pitching, the director or producer or investor may have something or someone different in mind. That’s just how it is.

This is a must see for anyone.
